It is used where the key operates the lock mechanically and no transponder chip programming is required.

A worn key blade can become difficult to turn and may eventually damage the lock itself. In many cases, customers think the lock is faulty when the key is actually worn. The cheapest first step is often to have a fresh blade cut back to factory specification before having the lock stripped, repaired or replaced.
